Serving Steps
| Missions outreach extends far and wide from First United Methodist Church. Volunteers from the congregation find that as they open themselves to Christ's empowering spirit, they are able to do great things in Christ's name. Perhaps missions is a place to fulfill your calling for service. |
Methodist Menders meet the first Saturday of every month to make minor home repairs for those unable to have the work done themselves.
Food Drive is conducted at various times during the year to help provide inventory for the Christian Community Ministries food warehouse.
Fix-It Team responds to request within the congregation for minor maintenance jobs for those who cannot do them for themselves.
Blood Drive is held each Spring and Fall to assist an area blood bank. |
Meals on Wheels engages Sunday School classes and other organizations of the church to provide a supplemental sack lunch on Saturdays for Meals on Wheels recipients most in need.
Angel Tree gives members of the congregation the opportunity to provide Christmas gifts for residents of the Methodist Children's Home in Ruston.
Habitat Home construction is a church wide project where all members can contribute to the building of a home for a wonderful family in our area.

Sager-Brown United Methodist Committee on Relief Warehouse Depot is located in Baldwin, Louisiana, south of Lafayette. At various times of the year we sponsor short-term mission trips to the depot to help packing, sorting, etc. A number of our retired members have found this a viable way to be involved in "hands-on" mission.

Ministry of HOPE This ministry assists in providing spiritual nurture, emotional and physical support, as is appropriate, to those members of the congregation who are unable to attend on a regular basis. Lay members of the congregation agree to visit, send cards and/or telephone assigned members who are homebound or in a nursing home, or to visit members who are in the area hospitals.
Training is provided twice a year. Contact Nannette White, Director of Senior Adult Ministries, for more information. (318-325-7335)

The Pumpkin Patch is jointly sponsored by the United Methodist Women, the Missions Committee, and the Lay Visitation Ministry. During the month of October, a pumpkin patch arranged on the front lawn of the church yard requires the attention of all the volunteers we can enlist. Over 4,000 preschool and school children come from area schools for story time, refreshments, and decorating demonstrations. The community is invited to come to the patch, walk through it, take pictures, and purchase pumpkins. The proceeds of the patch go to the outreach ministries of the three sponsors.

Greeters Ministry Volunteers sign up semi-annually to greet guests and members as they enter through three major entrances of the church building on Sunday mornings. Creating a climate of warmth and welcome is an absolute essential for a church to grow. Greeters receive others in such a way as to make them feel special and wanted. Contact Will Sheffield at 325-7335 for more information.
