Geneva Castle Scholarship applications for the fall semester must be turned in to the church office no later than Friday, July 29, 2016. You must submit a complete application each semester. In order to be considered for the fall semester, applications and spring grades must be submitted to Pastor Lynn Malone, 3900 Loop Road, Monroe, LA 71201. Applications may be picked up in the church office during regular business hours.


New Women's Bible Study on Wednesday nights in the sanctuary is being facilitated by Megan McClanahan. Please join us from 6 -7 p.m. as we meet "At the Altar" to reflect on "Your Defining Moment(s)!" Child care is available. Please enter in the west side doors of the church by the fellowship hall. Women of all ages are welcome and no book is needed!


Men's Bible Study on Wednesday nights in the Generation Hope classroom is being facilitated by Mitch Reppond. They will be studying The Kingdom Man by Tony Evans.


Sunday, August 7th, at 2 p.m. is the matinee performance of “OLIVER!” at the Strauss Theater Center. Support this collaborative production of the Strauss Theater and the Strauss Youth Academy for the Arts with our very own Gabby Sumrall, in the show!  To reserve your seat, RSVP to Nannette White with a $10 check made payable to FUMC. 


Senior Adult Vacation Bible, co-sponsored by FUMC Monroe and St. Paul’s UMC, with Ed Kilbourne, singer, storyteller, humorist, and folk theologian, as our guest presenter, will begin with a concert on Sunday night, Aug. 14th, at 5:30 p.m. and continues Monday through Wednesday, Aug. 15th-17th from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $35 which includes a VBS study book, materials, and lunch each day. GLOBAL OUTREACH WORKSHOP is coming to First United Methodist Church of Monroe Friday-Saturday, August 5th-6th. The Mission Society will present this tremendous event that will help us as a congregation:  refine our mission focus, engage our community, nation, and world in new missions efforts, and learn how to involve new volunteers in mission/service areas.  The workshop is completely free and will be from 7:00-9:00 p.m. on Friday and 8:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on Saturday in our Fellowship Hall.  Contact Chris in the church office or at to reserve your spot or for more information.


Our church is a sustaining member of the DeSiard Street Shelter, which provides meals and other services to area homeless. During the entire month of July, we will be working with the new DREAM WASH EXPRESS CARWASH, located at Forsythe and Oliver Road in Monroe, in a fundraiser to benefit the Shelter.  Passes will be handed out after the service for a $10.00 car wash, $5.00 of which goes directly to the shelter, for the month of July.  Get a pass, get a car wash, and support the shelter in its vital ministry.


Red Bird Mission Trip will take place October 8th-15th and is an adult mission trip open to persons of any skill level.  We will be working on homes in Beverly, KY, one of the most poverty stricken areas of the country, located within the beautiful Appalachian Mountain Range.  Cost is $500 per person and includes travel, room & board, and off-day excursion.  Contact Chris in the church office or at to reserve your spot or to get more information.


Our youth will be engaging in regular acts of service throughout the summer months. If you are in need of yard work, clean up, or any other task they can help with, contact Natalie Johnson ( or at 325-7335, to set up a time for the youth to help.


The ULM Wesley Foundation's annual Sportsman's Auction is coming up on Thursday, August 11 at 6pm at Lea Joyner UMC. Coach Matt Viator. This year's event will feature ULM Head Football Coach Matt Viator plus a jambalaya dinner and live and silent auctions. You don't want to miss this opportunity to hear from Coach Viator and bid on some great items!
